In an Italian convent for single teenage mothers, Lu, Fati and Sister Paula deal with their respective new consciousness for their individual maternity. Lu is a disruptive, rebellious teenage mother. She lives with her daughter Nina in a women’s refuge run by a group of nuns in Buenos Aires. Her friendship with Fati, and their shared experience of being children abruptly converted to mothers presents the heartbreaking experience of life in a refuge. The arrival of sympathetic Sister Paula, coincides with Lu going missing, and what ensues is a sensitively realised, honest portrayal of the hugely varying aspects of motherhood, womanhood and life for women and girls at the edges of society.
